Husband and wife dream team keeps everybody smiling

It’s a match that must have been written in the stars. The husband and wife team of maxillofacial surgeon Gregory M. Casey, DDS and orthodontist Dr. Maryann Kriger, DDS, P.A. share just about everything, which is good for their marriage and their medical practices. Chief among those common bonds is an ironclad commitment to their skills and patients.
We are both board certified in our respective specialties and this translates to both of us striving to provide the best care possible to our patients,” said Dr. Kriger. Dr. Kriger says she feel very blessed to have Dr. Casey on her side, because often in orthodontics, it is necessary to create room for the alignment of teeth or to create room for a dental implant, or repositioning jaws to correct dental function and facial esthetics and sleep apnea. That’s where being married to a maxillofacial surgeon like Dr. Casey comes in handy. “As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon I am trained to place dental implants, do extractions of wisdom teeth and perform orthognathic surgery, which can move jaws to achieve function and facial balance,” said Dr. Casey. “This enables us to work simultaneously to plan and achieve the best conservative care possible for patients.” Both spouses highlight the benefits of working together, both medical and personal. “Over the years I have realized how certain surgical procedures can affect the success of my orthodontics, and by working together Dr. Casey and I have learned what works best for patient comfort and treatment success,” said Dr. Kriger. Dr. Casey says the partnership benefits the patient because the couple share common goals in patient care and know each other’s strengths in what they can accomplish.

Drs. Kriger and Casey say though there are drawbacks to working together in similar fields of practice, they are small. The couple practically finishes each other’s sentences, thanks to a lot of talk after hours. “We can’t help but talk shop at home,” said Dr. Kriger, as Dr. Casey chimed in, “but that’s because we are so devoted to what we do.” Dr. Kriger specializes in a good mix of early treatment to correct jaw anomalies and development problems as well as teens and adult treatment with esthetic braces and Invisalign treatment. Her orthodontics program was a three-year hospital-based program, where she completed extensive training in craniofacial, surgical and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) cases. “Where most other two-year school based programs did not have this exposure or experience. I am blessed to have trained at Montefiore-Albert Einstein College of medicine, because it has broadened my knowledge and has prepared me to be comfortable treating the most complex cases,” said Dr. Kriger. Dr. Kriger’s passion for her specialty is matched by Dr. Casey’s passion for facial surgery. He is an oraland maxillofacial surgeon who has also received advanced fellowship training in facial cosmetic surgery, trauma and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Casey says it comes naturally to him to view the entire face as a unit. “The oral cavity and dentition are extremely important components of achieving optimal function and facial esthetics,” he said. “For example a patient with bone loss due to missing teeth, will have an accelerated aging process dentally and facially.” Dr. Casey also owns Rejuv, a medical facial spa that provides a full spectrum of non-invasive facial cosmetic services, such as facials, Botox, dermal fillers and medical grade facial peels, only available in the Naples office. Dr. Kriger is only one of two board certified orthodontists in the area. Completing the rigorous process is a source of pride for her. She has also been invited to join the exclusive Angle Society, which strives to advance the profession of orthodontics medicine, because it has broadened my knowledge and has prepared me to be comfortable treating the most complex cases,” said Dr. Kriger.

Straighter teeth can improve your efficiency and effectiveness to brush and establish good oral health, leading to better medical health. Dr. Kriger is a premier provider for Invisalign, a title given only to their most experienced doctors.” Comfort and serenity is at the forefront of both doctors’ minds and a key focus in both practices. Both Dr. Kriger and Dr. Casey recognize the importance of offices that are serene, pleasant and positive. “I take pride in offering all kinds of anesthesia to make procedures completely comfortable so patients never have to experience anxiety or pain from a dental procedure,” said Dr. Casey. “We are both so passionate about our respective specialties and feel blessed that we love what we do and can help our patients at the same time.”
